Duties & Responsibilities:
The Board shall review, formulate, and coordinate information, suggestions, proposals, and plans; shall address complaints from the general public by identifying areas for collaboration and partnership for delivery of accessible facilities and services to citizens with disabilities; and make recommendations to the City Commission and/or City staff as needed. The Board shall seek ways to provide more conveniently accessible facilities, public buildings, streets, sidewalks, and programs for the persons with disabilities in the City. The Board may be consulted with in terms of prioritization of accessibility-related improvements to City facilities. Recommendations regarding priorities may address both the order in which facilities are modified and the importance of particular improvements to each respective facility. The Board will provide input to the City Commission and Staff on concerns that affect the life and living conditions of persons with disabilities in Hallandale Beach, serve as advisors and resources for technical advice due to the complexity of concerns that arise when attempting to ensure the needs of citizens with disabilities are provided, and encourage providers with a focus on disability services and programs to participate in the efforts of the Board.
