COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)
The CERT Program educates residents about disaster preparedness for hazards that may affect their neighborhoods and community, and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and through disaster drills, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
CERT members have played a vital role in our recovery services during Hurricanes Francis, Jeanne, and Wilma. To find out more or to become a CERT member, visit our Emergency Management page.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge declared Fire Prevention Week an official national observance. Ever since, the Sunday through Saturday period containing the October 9 anniversary of the 1871 Chicago Fire has been the focus of an annual fire-safety awareness campaign sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Each year there is a new theme announced in July. Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue conducts presentations at the local schools and hosts a city wide coloring and essay contest. Local sponsors award a first, second, and third place gift certificate for each grade level at our Local daycares, Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach, and Hallandale High School. This year, Fire Prevention Week will be observed October 6-12, 2019.

PROJECT SAFE PLACE
It is estimated that over two million young people run away from home each year. Increasing numbers of kids are also being put out of their homes by disinterested, frustrated, or abusive parents. On the streets, these youths are vulnerable to many dangers. They are significantly more likely to commit suicide. Without help, their future is uncertain.
Safe Place offers access to immediate help for any youth experiencing a crisis situation. All Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue Stations are designated as a Safe Place. Any teen in crisis can come to a Fire Station and receive the help they need.
