Business Tax Receipts (BTR)

To operate a business in Hallandale Beach, you need to apply for and obtain a local business tax receipt. Whether your business is operated from a commercial location or is home-based; a local business tax receipt is required pursuant to both state and local laws. No person shall engage in, conduct or manage any business, occupation or profession in the city unless payment of the local business tax and a receipt in payment of same shall have been first procured from the city. 

  • Apply for the Local Business Tax Receipt by completing a Local Business Tax Receipt Application Form (if operating from a commercial or leased space or a residence).  If you are over 65 years of age or a Veteran, you may complete an  Exempt Local Business Tax Receipt Application.  A Local Business Tax Receipt will not be issued unless the federal employer identification number or social security number is obtained from the person to be licensed.  The signature of the applicant must be notarized.
  • Property Owner/Landlord Authorization to Conduct Business Form which serves as authorization from the property owner or authorized agent for the business to be conducted on the specified premises.  If the business is home-based and not owned by the applicant, the owner of the property must complete the form.  The signature of the property owner must be notarized.
  • Notary service is provided at no charge, provided the form is signed in our presence and a Florida Driver’s License or other U.S. picture identification is presented.  
  • Applications may be submitted in person to the address listed below.
  • Applications may also be mailed with all appropriate documentations.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Payment for Hallandale Beach Local Business Tax Fees must be submitted with the application by check (temporary checks will not be accepted), money order, cashier’s check or online payment.

Business Tax Receipts will not be issued for more than one year.  All Business Tax Receipts expire on September 30 of each year.  If you apply for your local business tax receipt on or after April 1st, you are required to pay only 50 percent of the annual amount that would normally be due.  The local business tax year runs from October 1st to September 30th of the following year.

Hotel Registration

The registration of hotels is set in place to monitor and regulate hotel/condo-hotel uses by allowing City inspection of the official books and records of such uses to ensure compliance with stipulated regulations.

Nightclub and Extended Hours Licensing

A person licensed under the provisions of the State beverage law must file an application with the city for a nightclub license to enable the applicant to serve, offer for sale, and sell upon the applicant's premises, liquor, wine and beer, until the hours of 4:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m.

Temporary Use Authorization

The temporary use of a property to conduct indoor and promotional events that change the city approved occupancy or capacity of the facility; special events that involve street closures or require the coordination of a number of city departments or other agencies, involve the use of alcohol, on-site commercial cooking, food sales or large scale temporary structures; outdoors sales; outdoor special events attracting a large attendance; or similar events, require a temporary use authorization.

Filming Activity Permit

Filming Permits are required for individuals or businesses wishing to conduct filming activities in the City of Hallandale Beach. The filming guidelines apply to all location filming activities, which take place in the City of Hallandale Beach. Exceptions to the guidelines are newscast and filming activities conducted by (or for) the City, or students.
